App: Fiddle Developer: Nemgic Software com.nemgic.fiddle Last updated: 21 September 2026

Fiddle does not collect any data about you. There is no server, no account, and nothing leaves your device — except during an optional, direct connection to your own band members' devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

Summary

Fiddle is a chord book for musicians: a song library, transposition, capo, chord diagrams, a metronome, setlists, a performance mode with auto-scroll, and a live session for keeping a band in sync. The app has no backend server, no user accounts, and no login. The app itself never sends a single network request to the internet.

Tapping the privacy-policy link, the “Contact” and “Report content” buttons, or a source link stored with a song you imported opens your browser or e-mail app; what those apps do is governed by their own policies.

What data we collect

None. Fiddle has no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party crash reporting. The developer does not receive, see, or store any of your data.

Where your data lives

Everything is stored locally on your device, in a local database: your songs (lyrics and chords), playlists and setlists, bands with member names and instruments, settings, and notes. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.

Permissions and why they are needed

android.permission.INTERNET Internet

Not used to reach the internet. Android requires this permission for any network connection, including one on a local Wi-Fi network, which is the only thing it is used for — the Live Session feature described below.

android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO Microphone

Used in two parts of the app. First, in the tuner: the microphone listens to a plucked string for as long as the tuner screen is open, to measure the pitch and show whether it is higher or lower than the target. For drums, the tuner works the same way but measures the pitch at each lug separately, and shows which lug needs to be tightened or loosened to make them even. Second, during a live session, when the leader starts an audio-latency measurement: the app plays a series of short tones and measures when the microphone hears them, so the metronome can click at the same instant on every phone. In both cases the sound is processed immediately, in the phone's memory, and it is never recorded to a file, stored, or sent anywhere. The app asks for this permission only after showing you what it is for — when you open the tuner, or when you tap "Allow the microphone" on the Live screen — and you may decline it; everything else in the app works without the microphone. The microphone stops being used as soon as you leave the tuner screen or the app goes to the background.

ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE / ACCESS_WIFI_STATE / CHANGE_WIFI_MULTICAST_STATE Network state and multicast

Needed so band members' devices can find each other on the same Wi-Fi network (mDNS service discovery, advertised as _fiddle-lan._tcp over TCP port 47811) and stay connected. Used solely for the Live Session, and they grant no internet access.

android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE / android.permission.FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK Foreground service

Keeps the metronome playing when the screen turns off during a performance. While the metronome runs, Android shows a persistent "Metronome is playing" notification with a stop control; it is removed as soon as you stop the click.

android.permission.MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS Modify audio settings

Required to play the metronome and chord sounds.

android.permission.VIBRATE Vibration

Haptic feedback on taps.

Live Session — the only network feature

Band members on the same Wi-Fi network can connect their devices directly. When you start a session, its name is announced on the local network and is visible to every device on that network. When you join, you send the leader the display name you typed and a random identifier generated by the app for your device (not a hardware or account ID); the leader shares the member list with everyone in the session. The leader sends the song currently being played and, if it was opened from a setlist, the setlist's name and order; songs you don't have — including the leader's personal notes, YouTube link, key, capo and tempo for that song — are copied to your device, and songs from the rest of the setlist may be copied ahead of time so they open instantly. This data never leaves the local network and never passes through any server. The connection is direct and is not encrypted or password-protected, so anyone on the same network could join or observe a session; use Live Session on a Wi-Fi network you trust. Songs received from the leader are saved to your library and stay there after the session ends; delete them like any other song if you don't want them. The setlist itself is not saved. Joining is voluntary and lasts only while you keep the session open.

Importing songs

You pick your own files (text, ChordPro, Word, Excel, CSV, or a Fiddle library JSON, which is merged into your library) through the system file picker. Files are read locally and never sent anywhere.

Export and sharing

You can export a song as PDF, plain text or ChordPro, a setlist or a band profile (including member names and instruments) as a JSON file, and your whole library — including notes, favourites and trashed songs — as a JSON backup, all through the system share menu. You choose the destination; the app never sends anything on its own.

Android backup

Fiddle opts out of Android's automatic app-data backup, so the operating system does not copy the app's data to your Google account. If you want a copy of your library, use "Save library backup (JSON)" in the app.

Temporary files

Exported or shared copies of your songs and library are written to the app's private cache and are replaced the next time you export or share. If the app's database becomes damaged, a dated copy of it may be kept in the app's private folder for recovery. All of this stays inside the app's private storage and is removed when you uninstall the app.

Sharing with third parties

We do not share data with anyone, because we do not collect any.

Security

Since all data stays on your device and none is transmitted to us, there is no data of yours on a server to protect. Standard Android app sandboxing protects your local data as it does for any other app on the device.

Children

Fiddle is not directed at children under 13, and it does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Your rights and control over your data

Because everything is stored only on your device, you are always in full control: you can view, edit, export, or delete your songs, playlists, and bands at any time inside the app. A deleted song is moved to the app's Trash, from which you can restore it; it remains in the app's local database — and in any library backup file you have saved — until you uninstall the app or clear its storage in Android settings, either of which permanently deletes everything.
